About Shades of Color
Shades of Color was founded in 1995 by Adrian Woods and Courtney Hines, two entrepreneurs who saw a gap in the calendar and gifts market and built a company to fill it. Their mission from the beginning has been to bring genuine Black art to communities by working with Black artists nationwide to create products that uplift and inspire. Thirty years later the company is one of the leading publishers in the African American gifts space, and every calendar in their collection still reflects that original purpose.
The 2027 Collection
The 2027 Shades of Color lineup covers a range of themes within the African American experience. Girlfriends and Sister Vibes celebrate Black women's friendship and community. For the Culture and I Am Radiant are affirmation-driven titles built around Black identity and self-worth. All the Potential 2 All the Children and Shades of Color Kids bring the mission into the family and classroom. Annie Lee's folk art style brings warmth and humor to everyday Black life in a tradition she built over decades. Urbanisms by Frank Morrison features his bold, colorful portrait style that has become one of the most recognized voices in contemporary African American art. Obama Years Remembering and Ladies First Black History connect the collection to historical context. Be Your Own InspHERation comes in both wall and planner formats for women who want the message with them every day.
Frank Morrison and Annie Lee
Two artists in the Shades of Color lineup are worth knowing by name. Frank Morrison is a celebrated painter and illustrator whose dynamic, expressive figures have appeared on book covers, murals, and in galleries across the country. His Urbanisms calendar brings that same energy to the wall format. Annie Lee was a self-taught artist from Chicago whose warm, humorous illustrations of everyday Black life earned her a devoted following over four decades. Her work continues to be published and collected widely after her passing in 2012. Having both artists in the same collection is a reminder that Shades of Color has been building relationships with Black artists since the beginning.
